Photographing my wanderlust.
Hi, I’m Ivan Baxarias — a chef for most of my life, and a photographer by passion (or maybe by addiction at this point). I spent over 25 years running kitchens, creating dishes, leading teams, and chasing perfection on every plate. But at some point, I realized what I really craved wasn't just the craft — it was freedom. The freedom to travel, to explore, to disappear into places I’d never seen before, and to feel that mix of awe and silence that only comes when you’re completely somewhere else.
So I traded the chef’s apron for a camera. Not overnight — it was a slow transition, full of trial and error and a lot of learning. But it was the best decision I ever made.
I live to travel. I’ve road-tripped across more than 20 countries in Europe in a beat-up RV with no plan other than let’s see where the road goes. I’ve explored over 15 U.S. National Parks, driven solo across deserts, hiked through rainforests, gotten soaked in the Scottish Highlands, frozen my fingers in Iceland, and burned my shoes under the Philippine sun. If there’s a trail, a viewpoint, or a stretch of road that looks like it might end in something amazing — I’ll go. And if not, I’ll go anyway.
Photography became my way to make sense of it all. It’s how I collect emotions. How I say: look what I saw, look what I felt, remember this. I’m drawn to places that feel vast, quiet, dramatic, or a little forgotten — places that make you slow down. Sometimes it’s a moody coastline. Sometimes it’s a canyon that looks like Mars. Sometimes it’s just the light hitting a wall in a way that makes you stop and stare.
My style is instinctive and emotional. I love strong contrasts, textures, imperfect symmetry, subtle colors, and the tension between stillness and movement. I shoot with whatever gear I have — drone, DSLR, phone — and I don’t chase technical perfection. I chase the feeling. The “wow”, the “I wish you were here”, the “this doesn’t even look real”.
Through BaxPhotos, I’m not just selling prints — I’m sharing moments. Some are limited editions, others are just personal favorites I think deserve a wall. All of them come with stories. Some told, some just felt.
So welcome to my little visual universe. Whether you’re here to buy art, look around, or just escape for a few minutes — thank you. If something speaks to you, I’d love to hear from you. And if you’re still reading, you deserve a coffee and a good road trip.
Let’s stay curious. Thanks for visiting, and for supporting art that’s made to travel—on your walls.
